One of the biggest challenges of getting to Mars is the time it takes to get there.

Traveling the shortest possible distance when Earth and Mars are ideally aligned and it takes a spacecraft with current technology about five months to reach the red planet according to NASA.

3 Days To Mars

Space agency scientists now say they can cut travel time to Mars to just 3 days and they will do it they say by harnessing the power of light.

Philip Lubin states the driving system would use photonic propulsion that relies on the momentum of photons or particles of light to propel objects through space and contrast the fuel currently used to launch spacecraft into space particles of light have no mass so they wouldn’t weigh down the spacecraft, photons do have energy and momentum though and when they reflect off an object that momentum is transferred into a push by attaching a large reflective sail on to a spacecraft light particles could be used to accelerate the craft.

Instead of photons from the sun’s rays through Mr.Lubins design would employ an array of small lasers working and synchrony to boost the spacecraft, forward.

The number of lasers needed would depend on the size of the craft.

Mr. Lubin’s team hasn’t tried their system yet but their calculations show that with the help of photonic propulsion and 100-kilogram robotic spacecraft could get to Mars in just 3 days.

100-Ton Mission to Mars

A 100-ton mission carrying humans would take about a month, one-fifth of the duration needed today.

Nasa and many scientists throughout the world have been working on technology to reach other worlds for as long as I can remember and as I do my investigation it seems that technology seems to be increasing before our eyes but they are only allowing us to see a little piece of it.

Is this technology available today and they are just not letting us know the full extent of it?

50 years ago we would never have thought we be standing where we are today so imagine what it’s going to be like in another 50 years.
